Beauty Emerging from Decay

November 13, 2024 – January 9, 2025

Ed works with the controlled oxidation of iron, copper, and bronze metal effects paint which creates evocative patina. Under natural weathering, a patina layer takes many years to develop, but it can also be produced by spraying the paint with a chemical reagent, which is what Ed does. The process yields natural yet dramatic effects that convey the passage of time.

Ed often hand chisels wood planks prior to painting which gives the work a 3D effect. For the close observer, somber themes of decay and loss can be found in Ed's paintings which are not merely decorative but can be seen as statements on the human condition and our place within the natural world, with beauty emerging from decay.

An artist reception will be held in the Taylor Gallery/Community Room Saturday November 16, 2024 from 3-5pm.
