OnView: Our River, Our Water-Oscar Romo

Oscar Romo is an environmental engineer, professor of Urban Studies and Planning at UCSD, watershed coordinator in Los Laureles Canyon, Tijuana, and recipient of the grant "Far South Border North." This grant is a City of San Diego-led regional collaborative that supports artists and cultural practitioners working in service of the health and well-being of communities in San Diego and Imperial counties. Through this program artists and cultural practitioners connect with one another and the community, offering an essential platform for guiding public messaging campaigns to cultivate awareness, social cohesion, and connectivity, particularly in the region's most impacted communities, contributing to health equity.

This exhibition, featuring 7 sculptures made of recycled materials, intends to educate residents of South San Diego on the multiple issues surrounding the Tijuana River Valley in South San Diego City and County-some of which are beneficial in terms of the environmental services only found in that space, but others are detrimental to the human health. Romo addresses the aggressive miss-information media campaign fueled political movements and partial views, on issues related to the condition of the Tijuana River. Residents are entitled to know all the facts involved in the current circumstances affecting the human and environmental health in South San Diego.
