Preserve, Protect, and Remember

September 6 – October 31, 2023

As a primary caregiver to four children, Laura Green’s work explores the connection between the environment and children. Using photographic references, Green depicts her personal experience of watching and guiding her children through the world during their lives. Green’s purpose is to highlight the reciprocal process of the parent-child relationship and show it as never static, but changing over time. The combination of gestural and realistic rendering creates a sense of movement in her paintings. Laura likes to show children engaging with nature, such as climbing trees or observing nature, as well as interacting with each other through imaginative play. Most importantly, Laura wants to emphasize the importance of physical touch which connects us to each other. We are all seeking connection, between parent and child and also between strangers and friends. We all desire to be seen, heard, and felt in some tangible way and my artistic practice makes that possible
