We invite community members to learn about historic oppression and systemic racism and share their lived experiences for personal and community empowerment.

San Diego's recently appointed Poet Laureate for 2025-2027, Paola Capó-García, will facilitate a community reading and discussion of Claudia Rankine's 2014 book, Citizen: An American Lyric. By focusing on the first section of the book, participants will reflect on the concept of microaggressions, as well as the effects of racism on the mind, body, and soul. Capó-García will also lead participants in a writing activity inspired by Rankine's work.

La recientemente designada Poeta Laureada de San Diego para 2025-2027, Paola Capó-García, facilitará una lectura y discusión comunitaria del libro Citizen: An American Lyric de Claudia Rankine, publicado en el 2014. Enfocándose en la primera sección del libro, los participantes reflexionarán sobre el concepto de microagresiones, así como los efectos del racismo en la mente, el cuerpo y el alma. Capó-García también guiará a los participantes en una actividad de escritura inspirada en la obra de Rankine.
