Is there such a thing as a good war? And can a war, with its violence and legacy of suffering, ever be considered just?

Join Professor Saba Bazargan-Forward of the Philosophy Department at UCSD in a discussion of Just War Theory and its use by rulers and nations in the preparation and conduct of war.  The concept of a just war deals with the justification of how and why wars are fought. And who came up with this doctrine anyway that holds that a conflict can, and ought to, meet and follow certain prescribed rules and conditions?

Please scroll down and register.

Dr. Bazargan-Forward researches and publishes widely in normative ethics with a focus on the morality of defensive violence, the morality of war, and individual accountability for cooperatively committed harms. He also works on other issues in normative ethics including the moral analysis of coercion and the morality of benefitting from injustice.
