Join us for a poetry reading with Karen Villa - the first of four in celebration of Filipino American History Month!

Karen Marie Maliwat Villa (She/They) is a queer second-generation Pinxy from Oxnard, California and is Kampangpangan and Ilocano of the Provinces of Tarlac, Tarlac and Victoria, Laguna in the Philippines. She/They has received the Manuel G. Flores Prize Scholarship from Philippine American Writers and Artists, and generous support from CSU Summer Arts. Her/Their community-based work is in social justice and equality for queer APIs/WOC/QTBIPOCs and her/their writing can be found in numerous publications including Closer to Liberation: Pin[a/x]y Activism in Theory and Practice, As/Us: Women of the World, TAYO Literary Magazine, Pochino Press, and hard femme poetics. She/They is completing a PhD in Sociology and is currently a lecturer in Ethnic Studies at CSU San Marcos.
