Ever wonder how drones can stay stable or how thermostats achieve the right temperature? Both of them have controls developed by engineers! In this class, we will learn the basics of controls using Arduino, sensors, and servo motors. Our goal will be to keep a ball in the center of a beam--it's not easy!

This is an in-person workshop for students in Grades 6-12 and their families. Only one registration is needed per family. Since this program is for Grades 6-12, at least one person in the group who participates MUST be in this grade range. Registrants may also choose to participate by themselves, rather than with a group.

This program has been developed by UC San Diego's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering student led organization, Project-In-A-Box.

No experience required!

Registration Policy and Procedures:

  • I understand students should arrive promptly for class and stay for the full duration of the class.
  • I understand this class is part of a partnership with UCSD Dept. of Computer and Electrical Engineering and the student organization, Project-In-A-Box. These classes differ from our regular programs in that they offer more of a structured, in-depth learning environment.
  • I understand that I will register through the Library Event Calendar and that my registration must be fully complete to attend the class.
  • I understand that one registration is good for my entire household and a Middle School or High School student in the household must be participating.
  • I understand that I am responsible for canceling my registration if I am unable to attend.
