Program Description

Event Details

Join us for Root Worlds Writing Workshop's second program, a FREE writing workshop focused on fundamentals particular to the writing of science fiction and fantasy stories.

The Root Worlds Writing Workshop is a Speculative Fiction Workshop meant for marginalized youth in San Diego. There will be published authors to teach skills and concepts, as well as UCSD students to help the youth workshop their own stories. By helping underserved teens develop skills in worldbuilding, as well as exposing them to speculative fiction writers who represent aspects of their experience, Root Worlds aims to both help youth explore their own identities and social agency through speculative fiction, and to inspire the next generation of writers to change the landscape of the genre.

Root Worlds welcomes San Diego High School Students to attend this event

At this event, you will learn from acclaimed Sci-Fi and Fantasy Author local to Southern California: Lilliam Rivera, author of the young adult novels Dealing in Dreams and The Education of Margot Sanchez, about how to create your own monster and the intersectionality of Science-Fiction.
