Did you know that the San Diego Public Library's Central Library houses the second-largest baseball research collection in the world? Please join us on Saturday, January 28, 2023 to hear from special guest speakers and learn more about this special partnership with the San Diego Ted Williams Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research.

Featuring special guest speakers:

Mel Proctor is a sports broadcaster with over 40 years of radio and TV experience with CBS, NBC, and TNT. Mel will cover some of the special moments that he witnessed in the “booth”, from baseball and beyond. Mel covered many professional teams, including:

  • Major League Baseball (MLB)teams—San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Nationals, Texas Rangers
  • National Basketball Association (NBA) teams—Washington Bullets, Los Angeles Clippers, New Jersey Nets

An author of several books, Mel also managed films for the National Football League (NFL).

Michael Koser hosts the weekly podcast “Lost Ballparks.” Each episode, Koser takes you on a journey to the golden age of baseball's Lost Ballparks as told by the players, broadcasters and fans who provide first-hand accounts of what it was like to sit in the seats on a summer afternoon at Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds, Forbes Field, Yankee Stadium, Comiskey Park, Crosley Field and many more. New episodes every Wednesday. He will cover some of the highlights and stories of his many interviews. In addition to the podcast, Michael is an artist who specializes in the art of baseball players and ballparks.

Andy McCue, former SABR president and author of several books, including his latest Stumbling Around the Bases, will discuss the various impacts over time that resulted from a string of bad decisions made by American League owners.
