Event Details

Join a talented team of Somali American artists for a delightful evening of art and culture. Soo Dhawoow is a Somali phrase of welcome and inclusion, which means to “come closer”. All are invited to come closer and share in the creative expression of the featured artists, all living in San Diego!  Refreshments served.

Soo Dhawoow  is curated by poet Fartoon Hagi-Mohamed and will feature the following artists below.  Post performance Q&A with the artists to follow for a lively discussion and dialogue. 

Munira Ahmed Ali is a writer, student, and mother. She believes books are always better than movies, but mostly she is an escapist. When she writes she creates.

Halima Hagi-Mohamed is the author of Amilah, a collection of short stories based on the lives of Somali youth. Her writing deals with themes of mental health, culture, family, and identity.

Famo Musa is a portrait and family photographer who has worked with the Aja Project. Musa has been a community leader fighting for change and youth organizer for City Heights Youth for Change. Follow her @famo_musa.

Fartoon Hagi-Mohamed is an aspiring writer, unrepentant nerd, and third culture kid studying English at San Diego City College. A second-generation Somali-American, Hagi-Mohamed uses poetry, creative nonfiction, and photography to explore her various identities. 

 

Parking is underground and free with 2-hour validation. The Central Library is one block from the Park & Market stop on the Trolley Blue and Orange lines.  Bus route 11 stops right in front of the library.
