Honoring Steve Kowit’s Contributions to American Poetry

The San Diego Poetry Annual (SDPA) and San Diego Public Library present the ‘catch-up’ ceremony for the Steve Kowit Poetry Prize Awards Ceremony to celebrate our Awardees from 2019 (Judge: Judy Reeves) and 2020 (Judge: Ron Salisbury) when we couldn’t congregate because of the Covid 19 pandemic.  The prize is given to deserving poets in honor of celebrated local poet and activist Steve Kowit, a former teacher at San Diego State University and Southwestern College. Poems of the Kowit honorees are published in a special section of the San Diego Poetry Annual each year.

The program will feature performances by winners, honorable mentions and special guests including San Diego inaugural Poet Laureate Ron Salisbury. Cash awards totaling $1350 and honoraria are provided by the San Diego Entertainment and Arts Guild.
