Join author-illustrator Susan Stockdale for a dynamic session on how she researches, writes and illustrates picture books that bring the natural world to life. Learn how she generates fresh, fascinating themes; writes using spare text, rhyming verses and exposition; and paints vibrant, detailed illustrations to engage young readers. Discover how she works closely with scientists to ensure accuracy. Don’t miss this chance to discover the art of crafting picture books that both captivate and educate. Susan Stockdale is the author and illustrator of many children’s picture books that illuminate fascinating themes in the natural world. Her books, such as Bring On the Birds, Stripes of All Types, and Fabulous Fishes, have earned top honors including the American Library Association Notable Picture Book and the National Council of Teachers of English Notable Children’s Book in the Language Arts. Her distinctive artwork and engaging text win praise. The Washington Post wrote, "If the paintings are the feast, Stockdale's words are the dessert." Her 2025 release is Don’t Eat the Cleaners! She lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
