Every other week, San Diego Public Library staff publish book reviews in the San Diego Union-Tribune followed by a video review posted on SDPL social media the following week. Watch the Behind the Desk video and receive bonus content about the book.

Library Assistant Craig Wimberly reviews Beyond the Gender Binary by Alok Vaid-Menon, in which the poet and artist demystifies and reimagines the gender binary in a book that is a 21st century survival guide for queer-identifying people of all walks of life.

Behind the Desk is our latest video series and delves deeper into the Recommended Reads published every other Sunday in the Union-Tribune. Check the Sunday Paper to see the latest review from SDPL staff from all over San Diego or view our archives on the library website: https://sandiego.gov/sdplreviews.

Want other suggestions for great reads? Craig has a playlist for you:

All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson

Gender Failure by Rae Spoon and Ivan E. Coyote

Sissy: A Coming-of-Gender Story by Jacob Tobia
