Program Description

Event Details

Every other week, SDPL staff have their book reviews published in the San Diego Union Tribune followed by a video review posted on SDPL social media the following week. Watch the Behind the Desk video with library assistant Max Peyro and guest reviewer Heath Fox from La Jolla Historical Society to get a more in-depth review and bonus content!

Librarian Marc Chery recommends The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio, a 700-year-old book set during the deadliest pandemic recorded in human history which resonates powerfully during our current moment in time.

Behind the Desk is our latest video series and delves deeper into the Recommended Reads published every other Sunday in the Union-Tribune. Check the Sunday Paper to see the latest review from SDPL staff from all over San Diego or view our archives on the library website: https://sandiego.gov/sdplreviews.

Want other suggestions for great reads? Marc has a bonus playlist for you:

San Diego Decameron Project, 100 previously unpublished short narratives by local authors loosely themed around Covid-19

SDPL Decameron Playlist of related books and websites

New York Times Decameron Project

Library of Congress Boccaccio Project

The Decameron Project | Share Your Story, led by high school students empowered to express themselves amidst school closures and other hardships posed by COVID-19
