Program Description

Event Details

The Día de los Niños program celebrates children’s literacy and embraces the value of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. San Diego Public Library and the Mira Mesa Branch are proud to present a culturally inclusive program for children and families with bilingual (Spanish-English) children’s books and crafts and activities from the Mexican culture.  The Lotería activity, which is similar to Bingo, is a fun way to learn and practice English and Spanish words in a game format. The kit includes a board book – Lotería: First Words / Primeras Palabras (English and Spanish Edition) – an instructional pamphlet, and a Lotería game board. By referencing the Lotería board book during the game, participants will be able to associate images with corresponding words in English and Spanish and increase the ability to recall the bilingual vocabulary terms.  The game is a great educational tool for promoting family literacy and cultural literacy, even after the program ends. Our April celebration is an opportunity for the Library community to celebrate children, family literacy, and the Mexican culture!

Registration is required.  Kits for those that are registered may be picked up at the Mira Mesa Library beginning April 25. Zoom link will be provided in a future email.  Call the Library for more information.
