Celebrate 25 years of día de los niños y día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) at City Heights Library & pick-up your Día literacy activity kit today!

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a celebration every day of children, families, and reading that culminates yearly on April 30. This year we celebrate 25 years of emphasizing the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds with Each Story Matters, Every Child Counts!  http://dia.ala.org

These kits have been co-designed with Back from Tomboctou, a local San Diego artisanal shop, dedicated to the preservation & promotion of traditional Mexican folk art. Each kit will help children explore Mexican culture & regional indigenous identities through the use of interactive crafts, including: Folklórico doll painting & Huichol yarn painting, while supplies last! https://www.backfromtomboctou.com/

In celebration of literacy, each kit will include tips for interactive storytelling & a collectible copy of Odi’s Library Day, written by Hunter Hackett & Illustrated by Anisi Baigude. This bilingual board book is perfect for parents and their emerging little readers to build a lifelong connection to the San Diego Public library and books.

Come celebrate the magic of storytelling & rich art traditions of Mexico today!

Starting Wednesday, April 21, 2021, Kits are available for pick-up Monday-Saturday from 9:30am-5:30pm. We are closed between 1-2pm everyday for cleaning. When you arrive at the library, give staff a call & we will deliver your kit contact-free. Supplies are limited, 1 kit per participant. 619-641-6100
