Program Description

Event Details

Members of the club will read a book with a gay theme each month, including novels, memoirs, and plays, and get together to discuss it. The readings will explore gay life pre and post-AIDS, gay culture in America, and the history of the LGBT movement. I envision a mix of classics such as The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Dancer from the Dance by Andrew Holleran, and Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin, and more contemporary works such as The Sparsholt Affair by Alan Hollinghurst, the Pulitzer Prize winning Less by Andrew Sean Greer, Just Kids by Patti Smith, and Calypso by David Sedaris. Members can continue to socialize and discuss the book of the month further at one of the nearby restaurants or bars.
