Description of Event

Jewish Voice for Peace, San Diego Chapter, presents Gideon Levy's "The Zionist Tango: Step Left, Step Right" (53 min. video). Recorded in 2018, on the eve of the AIPAC summit in Washington, DC.

Levy writes opinion pieces and a weekly column for the newspaper Haaretz that often focus on the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories while telling his readers the truth about what goes on in the Occupied Territories. He is widely considered the "dean" of Israeli journalism - as well as "the most hated man in Israel." Levy has won prizes for his articles on human rights in the Israeli-occupied territories. As Levy has written, "Treating the Palestinians as victims and the crimes perpetrated against them as crimes is considered treasonous." Levy also says that across the mainstream Israeli political spectrum, there is no challenge to the occupation of Palestinian land. His published books include "Twilight Zones" and "The Punishment of Gaza."

Introduction, Questions and Answers will be led by Gary Fields, USCD Professor. Gary Fields is a professor in the Department of Communication at the University of California, San Diego, and is the author of "Enclosure: Palestinian Landscapes in a Historical Mirror," published by the University of California Press. He is currently working on a book entitled "Imprisoned: A Photo-Geography of Confinement Landscapes in Palestine." Gary Fields has a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley.

Free and open to the public.
