Description of Event
FREE FILM AND PRESENTATION: LOOTED AND HIDDEN: PALESTINIAN ARCHIVES IN ISRAEL.
Hosted by the Jewish Voice for Peace (San Diego Chapter) and The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee San Diego Chapter.
Rona Sela is a researcher of visual history. She uncovers records of Palestinian existence and culture hidden in Israeli archives. In 2017, she produced “Looted and Hidden,” a 45 min. documentary, investigating the cinematic and other archival treasures that Israel plundered from various Palestinian visual and research institutions in Beirut in the 1980s. The film follows four historical figures who are involved in the fate of these Palestinian archives. Based entirely on archival materials, extensive research, and interviews with the individuals it portrays, this film exposes, for the first time, Palestinian materials that were erased deliberately from the public sphere by Israel and were, for many years, presumed to have been “lost.”
Q&A period with Dr. Jamal Nassar, Dean Emeritus at CSU San Bernardino will follow the documentary.
