Weekly readings of favorite classic and modern short stories selected by library staff performed by Write Out Loud professional actors. Part of WOL’s popular reading performance program Listen to This where new stories are released daily for the community to enjoy.

Listen to "The Geranium" by Flannery O'Connor, performed by Walter Ritter

The Geranium is recommended by Kristina Garcia at the San Diego Central Library.  "I couldn't stop reflecting about the characters and their interactions. So much pain from race, family, age, mistakes, and lack of self-knowledge. This story was her first piece of fiction first published in 1946 when she was only 21. It was also the first story in her master's thesis in 1947.”  Read copy here and listen to Kristina talk about why he recommended it.

Flannery O’Connor is an American novelist and short-story writer whose works, usually set in the rural American South and often treating of alienation, concern the relationship between the individual and God. Get more on O'Connor.

Write Out Loud was founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading literature aloud to audiences.  Join their international listenership and receive your free daily story.
