San Diego Poet Laureate Ron Salisbury

Like many of us who live in San Diego, I was adopted by this city from someplace else. It is a great honor to be chosen as San Diego’s first Poet Laureate.  I want to give back to the city that adopted me, share my poetry with its people and share San Diego with the nation.  

Poetry exists in that space between what is said and what is meant. Language is such a blunt tool we have to use to express our experience and view of the world around us.  And that world and that experience is different for each poet because we are each different. I try to express, through my poems, my slice of the world in a way that others can understand.
