Program Description

Event Details

This event will be held at the Young Adult Area because the Community Room will be booked for Family Music. For 7th to 12th graders. We will discuss two books in this meeting: Scythe: Arc of a Scyhe, Book 1 by Neal Shusterman and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel.

Scythe is set in a world where disease has been eliminated, the only way to die is to be randomly killed ('gleaned') by professional reapers ('scythes'). Two teens must compete with each other to become a scythe--a position neither of them wants. The one who becomes a scythe must kill the one who doesn't.

Station Eleven is the 2014 National Book Award Finalist and a New York Times Bestseller. An audacious, darkly glittering novel set in the eerie days of civilization’s collapse, Station Eleven tells the spellbinding story of a Hollywood star, his would-be savior, and a nomadic group of actors roaming the scattered outposts of the Great Lakes region, risking everything for art and humanity.
