Persepolis (2007), Is the first screening of a series of four Iranian films. If Cinema is a universal language, then a national cinema can speak to us of the hopes, concerns, aspirations, and stories of a people. Even when we need to read sub-titles, films from other countries can open wide whole windows on other people and other ways of living. This series. “The Persian Screen,” opens the window on Iran, screening films by well-known Iranian directors that look at Iranian view points - that of the average person dealing with daily life, the concerns of society and politics, and moments of great love and sorrow. Iran has historically produced well-respected films and its film industry has enjoyed a deserved reputation for producing some of the most beautiful and poignant films in the world. This film series is part of a larger response to the current tensions between the US and Iran. We hope that through these films, we, too, shall find that being human is universal. - Professor Rebecca Romani
