The neighborhood is named after the College-Rolando branch of the San D iego Electric Railway, which operated from 1924 to 1949. Today, the area i s primarily residential, with a mix of single-family homes, apartments, an d condominiums. College Rolando is home to San Diego State University, whi ch is located just to the west of the neighborhood.
