Poetry Therapy: The Practical Application of Poetry to Everyday Life

Words are the Most Powerful Magic that There Is

Poet Igor Goldkind (and author of the illustrated book of poetry, Is She Available?) will be giving a talk and a reading on the benefits of Poetry Therapy, as an alternative to alternative treatments for anxiety, extreme grief, depression, panic attacks and addictive or compulsive behaviors.  The healing effect of words has long been recognized. As far back as 4000 BCE, early Egyptians wrote words on papyrus, dissolved them in liquid, and gave them to those who were ill as a form of medicine. In more recent history, reading and expressive writing have been employed as supplementary treatments for those experiencing mental or emotional distress. Pennsylvania Hospital, the first hospital established in the United States, employed this approach as early as the mid-1700s.

Igor Goldkind will be reading from his own work as well those of some of his clients who have undergone a session of Poetry Therapy.    He will explain in detail and demonstrate his unique Poetry Therapy methodology.

Registration is encouraged.
