The earliest wood block prints were seen in China and Japan, originally for printing books such as the Chinese Diamant-Sutra from Dunhuang (c. 868), and then later adopted and refined by the Japanese both for printing texts and images.
Students will learn about the different materials used for relief or block printmaking. Then, each student will print a floral image from a woodblock to create a black and white image. Prints can be hand colored once the ink has dried. Registration is required. Ages 18 and up.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Balboa Library.
