Biography

Toni Cortez-Aguilar has performed throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe. Her musical journey began in San Diego Unified schools. Performing at Spreckels Theatre, Copley Symphony Hall, and the original Jack Murphy Stadium created a love for flute, performance, and community collaboration. These principles have been carried throughout her musical career.

A founding member of Connessa Collective (2021 Finalists in Chamber Music, The American Prize, and 2023 National Flute Association selected performers), Toni uses music and performance as a way to connect with her community. She has served as a clinician and guest artist throughout Southern California. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Fullerton, where she studied with Cynthia Ellis (Pacific Symphony Orchestra) and Diane Alancraig (LA Phil). Toni also holds a Master of Science with an emphasis in student affairs in higher education from Colorado State University.

Toni is passionate about performing works by marginalized composers. Toni uses music to connect to her intersectional identities and her community. She met her partner, Ever, in their high school marching band and the two have been making music ever since. The two currently live in Oceanside with their three noisy and amazing children and adorable rescue pup.
