Immerese yourself in the traditions and stories of mariachi music with the perfromance of "Cinco de Mayo Mariachi" with YPO City Heights Mariachi. The non-profit Youth Philharmonic Orchestra's (YPO) CIty Heights Mariachi will perform a variety of songs, including Guadalajara, Los Aguacates, La Cigarra, El Son de Conejo, Los Golondrinas, and the popular La Raspa (Mexican Hat Dance).
Mariachi music is popular in the San Diego area and dates back to 18th Century Western Mexico. It is now recognized by UNESCO as an "Intangible Cultural Heritage".
The Discovery Series of Concerts at the library serve to educate the public about various music forms and to expand the oopportunity for local musicians to perform and provide insights to their music.
