Program Description
Event Details
This Summer's reading theme is Read Beyond the Beaten Path, so we are screening films based on books that take you to far off places. During Tuesdays in July, you can travel in a cinematic time-machine by watching modern versions of William Shakespeare's plays on the Pacific Beach Library's big screen. Although more than 400 years have passed since they were written, the plots and social commentary of William Shakespeare’s plays still resonate with audiences in these contemporary-looking film adaptations. We conclude with William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet.
Description: The Bard gets a '90s makeover in this imaginative rendition of the ill-fated romance between the star-crossed lovers, as directed by Baz Luhrmann. Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes, Brian Dennehy, John Leguizamo, Pete Postlewaite. (1996, PG-13, 120 minutes)
July 12: 10 Things I Hate About You ~ retelling of The Taming of the Shrew
July 19: She’s the Man ~ retelling of Twelfth Night
