New York Times bestselling, award-winning author Laurie Halse Anderson is visiting your San Diego Public Library for a special event around the paperback release of her new memoir, SHOUT!

Anderson is known for the unflinching way she writes about, and advocates for, survivors of sexual assault. In 1999, her groundbreaking, award-winning novel Speak opened the door for a national dialogue about rape culture and consent. Now, twenty years later, she reveals her personal history as a rape survivor in a searing poetic memoir, SHOUT.

In free verse, Anderson shares reflections, rants, and calls to action woven between deeply personal stories from her life that she’s never written about before. Searing and soul-searching, devastating and triumphant, SHOUT is a denouncement of our society’s failures and a love letter to all the people with the courage to say #MeToo and #TimesUp, whether aloud, online, or only in their own hearts.

Please be advised that due to the discussion of mature topics, this event is recommended for ages 13+.

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served. Following the presentation there will be a book signing. In order to guarantee a spot in the signing line we ask that you purchase a book from The Library Shop.
