Sharon Katz, founder of The Peace Train Project and Band, will direct a summer camp at Central Library on Monday June 17th; Tuesday June 18th, Thursday June 20th; Friday June 21st and Saturday June 22nd from 1.00pm-3.00pm. Katz is an internationally renowned musician and recording artist and worked in her home country of South Africa to bring divided communities together. She represents the ideals of Nelson Mandela who endorsed her work with The Peace Train in South Africa. She has produced events in San Diego, Tijuana, Tecate and Santiago de Cuba since 2018 when The Peace Train staged a parade across the San Diego / Tijuana border, workshops and a concert at CECUT, a major performing art center in Tijuana. Sharon Katz leads tours all over the world which feature youth performers and adult musicians and she is known for her multicultural collaborations. She recently returned from South Africa and Baja California Sur where she staged concerts.
The summer camp at San Diego Central Library will focus on developing vocal, instrumental and song writing skills. Ms. Katz will offer tuition in electric and acoustic guitars, drums, keyboards and percussion. In addition, there will be classes in live music and studio production. Working with Sharon Katz might lead to being selected to participate in future productions.
