Event Details

Join us for a sewing class every Saturday in June focusing on different sewing skills that you can then apply to your own cosplay. Registration required for each class. Registration opens 2 weeks before the class.

June 3 - Beginning Sewing
Participants will learn basic sewing techniques by making a small project to take home.

June 10 - Intermediate Sewing
Participants will learn intermediate sewing techniques by making a small project to take home.

June 17 - Upcycling
Participants will learn how to upcycle through a small project. Please bring an item to upcycle such as an article of clothing or pillow case.

June 24 - Sewing Project
Participants will learn a variety of sewing techniques by making a small project to take home.

Please keep in mind:

  • Space is limited. For ages 8+ only.
  • Participants can stay for open lab time after the class from 12-2 pm to apply their new skills to a project. For personal projects, please bring your own materials. June 17th will NOT have open lab time.
  • *Traffic and parking may be impacted by Padres games. Please check parking rates.*

These workshops are part of the Central IDEA Lab's DIY Cosplay Series in June.

What is Cosplay? The term combines the words "costume" and "play" and is frequently seen at fan conventions, where fans dress up as different characters. Interested in cosplay but don't know where to start? Have you cosplayed before and want to learn new skills? Good news! This DIY Cosplay Series is for you! 

The Central IDEA Lab has put together workshops to help aspiring and current cosplayers learn a variety of making skills using the equipment in the IDEA Lab to create, embellish, or level up their costumes. Attend one of our informational sessions to get inspired and to meet other cosplayers.
