OASIS: Brice Marden (1938-2023)

American abstract painter was one of the best-known artists of his time. Marden’s work initially emerged from the minimalist and color field painting tradition. He gained international fame for his encaustic monochromatic paintings. There followed a period of experimentation that resulted in paintings and drawings called the Cold Mountain series for which he is best known. These large works, some as large as 9 x 12 feet, combine calligraphic drawing with an atmospheric mood.
