During September we'll show films to celebrate both Latinx Heritage Month and Banned Books Week (September 18-24). We'll wrap up Banned Books Week by screening The Hate U Give, on Friday 9/23.
The Hate U Give: A young black student from a poor neighborhood who attends a prep school in an affluent area finds her uneasy life balance further disrupted when she witnesses her childhood friend get shot by a police officer. Caught in the middle of the subsequent turmoil, she is forced to look inside herself and figure out just where she stands in her young life. Adapted from Angie Thomas's 2017 novel, which the American Library Association reports was the 5th most frequently banned book in 2021. Starring: Amandla Stenberg, Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, K.J.
