Internationally acclaimed and multi award-winning poet Shadab Zeest Hashmi will be sharing from her hybrid memoir, Comb. Through poetry and vignettes she draws on her childhood memories of growing up in Peshawar, on the Pakistani side of the Afganistan border.  At a time when the Soviets were ramping up for war, Shadab magically weaves her personal journey into lyrical essays. Join us for this compelling discussion followed with a Q and A from the audience.

Shadab Zeest Hashmi, a Pakistani-American poet and essayist, is the winner of the San Diego Book Award, Sable Books' Hybrid Book Prize, Nazim Hikmet Poetry Prize, and has been nominated for the Pushcart multiple times. Her books include Kohl and ChalkBaker of Tarifa, Ghazal Cosmopolitan and Comb. Zeest Hashmi's poetry has been translated into Spanish, Turkish, and Urdu, and has appeared in numerous anthologies and journals worldwide, most recently in McSweeney's In the Shape of a Human Body I am Visiting the Earth. She has taught in the MFA program at San Diego State University as a writer-in-residence.
