Weekly readings of favorite classic and modern short stories selected by library staff performed by Write Out Loud professional actors. Part of WOL’s popular reading performance program Listen to This where new stories are released daily for the community to enjoy.

Listen to "The Open Window" by Saki, performed by Veronica Murphy

The Open Window is recommended by Jennifer Geran at the City Heights Library. “Besides being clever and funny, this very short story is a masterpiece of characterization and explication. The last line isn't exactly necessary, but I find myself quoting it once in a while, if the situation warrants.” Read a copy here and listen to Jennifer talk about why she recommended it.

Hector Hugh Munro better known by the pen name Saki was a British writer who wrote witty, mischievous and macabre stories satirizing society and culture. Get more on Saki

Write Out Loud was founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading literature aloud to audiences.  Join their international listenership and receive your free daily story.
