Listen to "To Build a Fire" by Jack London, performed by Brian Mackey
To Build a Fire is recommended by David Cederholm at the Allied Gardens/Benjamin Library. "I always thought of this story when I was 14 years old and out delivering newspapers on cold, snowy mornings in Nebraska. There are two versions of this story, one published in 1902 and the other in 1908. The story written in 1908 has become an often anthologized classic.” Read a copy here and listen to David talk about why he recommended it.
Novelist, journalist, and social activist, Jack London is a pioneer of commercial fiction and one of the first American authors to become an international celebrity and earn a large fortune from writing. The Call of the Wild is his most famous work. Get more on London.
