Listen to "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe, performed by Walter Ritter

The Cask of Amontillado is recommended by Christine Miller at the Central Library. "This is the first Edgar Allan Poe story I remember reading when I was in 8th grade. Unaware at the time of his influence in American Literature, I was drawn in by his eerie imagery. October is the perfect time for this story. First published in 1846, it is considered a classic of the Gothic fiction genre.” Read a copy here and listen to Christine talk about why she recommended it.

Edgar Allan Poe is a central figure in American literature best known for his short stories and tales of mystery. He is considered as a major influencer on detective and science fictions. Get more on Poe.
