Listen to "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allan Poe, performed by Veronica Murphy
The Masque of the Red Death is recommended by San Diego Public Library director, Misty Jones. "I have always been a fan of Gothic fiction and I think Poe is such a master of this genre. I also think that Poe is such a tragic and misunderstood figure. Written in 1842, the story is said to be influenced by the first Gothic novel, Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto (1764)". Read a copy here and listen to Misty talk about why she recommended it.
